Battleships

Find the hidden fleet using row and column clues.

The rules

How to play

  1. 01

    The fleet

Every puzzle hides a full fleet of ships. Place each one on the grid — the ship sizes vary with the grid you choose.

  2. 02

    Straight lines only

Ships sit horizontally or vertically, never diagonally, and each is a single straight run of cells.

  3. 03

    No touching

Ships never touch one another — not even at a corner. Keep at least one water cell between every ship.

  4. 04

    Read the counts

The numbers along each row and column tell you exactly how many ship cells that line must contain.

  5. 05

    Use the hints

Some cells start revealed as ship parts or water. Anchor your first deductions on those given cells.

Four ways to find the fleet

Start with extremes

Attack rows or columns marked 0 (all water) or with a high count (packed with ship cells) first.

Wall off with water

The moment you place a ship segment, mark water in every diagonal cell around it.

Complete the count

Once a row or column reaches its ship total, flood the remaining cells with water.

Find forced placements

Sometimes a ship can only fit one way given the constraints — place it and move on.
